Introductory Fly Casting

Designed for the novice fly caster or the individual who would like to tune up their technique after a long winter. This program focuses on proper use of equipment and using the student's body in balance in order to lay out a reasonable amount of fly line. Topics include proper equipment rigging, grip on the rod, stance, false casting, the overhead cast, the roll cast and shooting line. Students should bring their own rods and gear. If need be, equipment can be rented from the shop. A 10% discount will be given toward the purchase of in-stock rods and tackle during the course

Fundamental Fly Tying

This beginners course is designed for those who are just getting started or those who feel a little rusty and want a refresher. Learning to tie functional and durable flies is now becoming easier
than ever, and will add a new dimension to your fly fishing pursuits. The basic techniques covered will give the tier a good base to create dynamic flies. Topics covered include proper use of tools, proportioning of the fly, wrapping hackles, dubbing, weighting flies, using synthetic flash effectively and basic dry fly techniques. Patterns tied include the venerable Woolly Bugger, Baggy Shrimp, Woolly Worm, Lite Brite Zonker, Collaborator, Peking Caddis and Mickey Finn.

Course Cost: $130.00 (includes all materials and a basic kit to take home)

Advanced Fly Tying

Designed for those wanting to expand their tying horizons. The pace of this course is much quicker than that of the beginner course. Students are expected to come with basic tying experience and tools in hand ready to explore more advanced techniques. Techniques covered include working with deer hair, segmenting fly bodies, tying stinger hook flies and use of epoxy type materials. Patterns tied include the Mikaluk Sedge, General Practitioner, T & A Bunker and the Whithopper.

Course Cost: $100.00 (includes all materials and samples to take home)

Chironomid Fly Tying

Chironomid or buzzer fishing is one of the most productive ways to fish on stillwaters. In this seven hour seminar, you will not only learn how to tie some of the Yukon's deadliest chironomid patterns, but also how to effectively fish them on our pothole lakes. Patterns tied include the Collaborator, Greenie Meanie, Ice Cream Cone, Bloodworm and many more. Students will need to be familiar with tying basics and come with their own tools and thread.

Course Cost: $60.00

Salmon and Steelhead Fly Tying

In this one day program of instruction students will delve into the exciting and colourful realm of modern salmon and steelhead patterns. Using bright and flashy materials, students will create resilient and effective patterns for Alaska and Canada's West Coast. Patterns tied include the Alaskabou series, General Practitioner, Coho Killer, Christmas Tree, Mini Spey, MOAL Leech and Intruder Style Patterns. Students are to come with some basic tying experience and basic tools. Some materials will be provided, as well as a list of materials required for the course. Students will receive a 10% discount on all fly tying materials and equipment at the shop while on the course.

Modern Streamers for Trout and Char

Innovative tiers such as Kelly Galloup, Greg Senyo and Russ Madden are taking the streamer tying world by storm with their large profile and unusual flies. Utilizing tandem and stinger hook construction, cutting edge materials and a flare for thinking outside the box, these intruder style streamers are not only attracting fly anglers but also monster trout and char. Patterns tied include the T & A Rainbow, Circus Peanut, Butt Monkey, Chewbacka and Articulated Zoo Cougar. Students require a basic knowledge of fly tying basics and must bring their own tools and thread. All material will be provided for the course.
